Dubya gave us the Department of Homeland Security, which in turn spawned the crotch-grabbing TSA. Now RINO Susan Collins and Dem-turned-independent Joe Lieberman want to establish something called the Cyberspace Policy Department in order to save our computer networks from insidious attacks by the likes of Burma. Forgive me if I’m not quite the trusting sort anymore. And neither is Short Little Rebel, who has posted this in-depth analysis of the proposed legislation:
An In-depth Analysis of Lieberman’s Cybersecurity Bill 2011: Giving Birth to Big Brother
[...] Not only will it produce the biggest bureaucracy heretofore known to man, but it will also usher in ‘Big Brother’ once & for all. This bill represents the biggest take-over of private industry by the U.S.A. government (or any government) in the history of our country. The possible & probable misuse of the power within this bill range anywhere from electronic spying on U.S. Citizens & companies to strong-arm tactics to force companies out of business if they fail to comply with government orders. In the wrong hands, the powers & intended actions of this bill could deny food, water, and any other supply to U.S. citizens. If ever there could be a ‘mark of the beast’, this would be the way to implement it.

Ensuring national security should be the business of every citizen. And so should preventing national insecurity. SLR’s analysis indicates that the Cybersecurity Bill of 2011 will generate too much of the latter and not enough of the former.

I left a comment on SLR’s site, but the legislation in question is frightening, indeed. One more department of security of something or the other is the last thing we need in this country.
The country’s the safest when Congress is out of session, LD.
In all honesty I did not read the whole article by Short Little Rebel…
I have read enough of her posting to know what she is saying…
I am commenting for the longest time on diferent blogs,
that whatever is happening, is geared up to limit to use Internet freely..
all the hacking, the information compromises, personal data entered…
IT IS STAGED!!!!!!!! to make a justification for “security measures”
I know some are real, and we do have smart kids (and kids alike) making adrenaline rush for their abilities and cyber knowledge…
I am so sick and tired of all the securities protecting me!!!!!
In my home I am capable to take care of myself (don’t trust me?….try to enter!!)
as far as flying goes? I will take my chances….
the failure of airports security and checks are so bad, if radical muslims (or anyone for that matter) would like to blow us to pieces they would do so on every day bases!!!!! (I shall know, I flew frequently enough and “smugled” all kinds of stuff they did not even pay attention to …in plain view may I add)
it is a social conditioning to make people submit their RIGHTS and PRIVACY!!!!!
(and all the fancy scanners they can stick up their….storage!!!….just make me wonder how much money Napolitano’s buddies made on that gov deal….????? )
to get acustomed to slavery, don’t say anything, go with the program practice…
that before we know it, we will be USSA !!!
I am in Poland taking care of my bed-ridden Mother (since Summer of 2010), and there is not a day going by without some incident happening somewhere in Europe that the press wouldn’t question the free Internet used for “evil” information….
teletubby-in-chief and his thugs are way ahead of us!!!
they are rounding us like a trail used to cattle…..
JOANNA, false-flag cyber attacks are certainly not out of the question. But even if legitimate, to give the government control of the Internet is idiotic. They’re not to be trusted.
If the intent of the bill is good, the details are that proverbial Unintentional Road to Hell.
I hate to say it ‘Always On Watch’ but you can rest assured there are no good intentions to anything the crime syndicate, aka, the U.S government comes up with. It’s all about control and power … gaining more and keeping it.
If Collins & Lieberman sponsored it, it can’t be in our best interests.
Government protects us from hackers but who protects us from government. GIVE ME MORE FREEDOM AND LESS SECURITY,PLEASE!
Amen, JIM.
And the Conservatives will be more than happy to help usher in this “fantastice” bill that will ensure our security.
Not the real ones, BUNKER.
The truly frightening thing is that Republican bills are being introduced that are similar to Lieberman’s bill. Every one of them needs to be stopped. The government should only have the authority to secure their own infrastructure, software, hardware & connections. Based on the incredible cost of what these bills propose, it would be a heck of a lot cheaper for them to just run their own proprietary lines & satellites, etc. I know they already have something secure in place. They need to just build on it.
Think about it: who can program something faster- a young Bill Gates in his garage or the American Government? That reasoning alone should guide our decisions. Both the people attempting to ‘hack’ us are faster than any government and so is the private market faster in producing software to protect us from that hacking. The government will just be one big, giant ball & chain to the entire process and will fail utterly in this proposed mission.
I always assume people know what they are doing- he’s got techies like me all around him. They have told him the same. Lieberman’s bill has no intention of securing the internet for Americans. It is 100% about controlling the people (and a large part of the world). It is Big Brother.
Last note: pls. contact your senators & representative. I have written a short letter you can copy & paste into your emails to them. At the end of my (long) article, you will see links to every congressman. When you go to these links, local phone numbers are there as well. It is fast & easy & friendly. The staff keeps a tally sheet for each bill. Just say ‘no’ to this one! It takes two seconds.
Anyone who actually understands how the internet works knows that it will always have security issues. The government can dump all the money in the world into making it secure, and hackers will still find a way around.
But if you want to spy on people while limiting free speech, this bill makes perfect sense.
John Kerry probably loves it, TRESTIN.
Trestin, that is my point exactly.
