Dispatches From The War On Capitalism

Sebelius to Insurers: Shut Up Or Else on ObamaCare Increasing Premiums; To AP, It’s Mere ‘War of Words’ | NewsBusters.org.

“We will also keep track of insurers with a record of unjustified rate increases: those plans may be excluded from health insurance Exchanges in 2014. Simply stated, we will not stand idly by as insurers blame their premium hikes and increased profits on the requirement that they provide consumers with basic protections.”

–Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

And who will determine when a premium increase is unjustified? Sebelius–a political science major and career politician with no background in business, insurance, or medicine?  Or some committee of anonymous, semi-socialist watchdog drones appointed by the Leader to administer our new system of nationalized medicine?  Madame Secretary applies the word “blame” pejoratively, associating it with “premium hikes” which must lead in her opinion to “increased profits”, which leads in turn to not-so-veiled threats to force rebellious entities out of business.  I would point out to this leftist lightweight that our economic system is (or at least, used to be) one of capitalism, and that profits–even increased ones–are not evil at all.  They are, in fact, the fuel that drives our prosperity.  And we have choices (or we did, prior to Obama).   None of us are required by law to patronize any particular company.   If a consumer is unhappy with a product, be it health insurance or hemorrhoid ointment, he or she is free to try another.  In the American system, Comrade Sebelius, all businesses exist at the pleasure of their customers.  If they did not provide good services at fair prices, they would soon be  former businesses.  It’s a cryin’ shame the same can’t be said about your Department of Health & Human Services.

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.”

–Albert Camus
