Plot to Bomb US, European Countries Revealed (AP)
Iraqi authorities have obtained confessions from captured insurgents who claim al-Qaida is planning suicide attacks in the United States and Europe during the Christmas season, two senior officials said Wednesday. Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The Associated Press that the botched bombing in central Stockholm last weekend was among the alleged plots the insurgents revealed. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, in a telephone interview from New York, called the claims “a critical threat.”
While TSA busies themselves groping nuns and body scanning Baywatch babes, your friendly neighborhood jihadists may not be planning on taking to the skies at all this holiday season. Terror bombers can strike at crowded restaurants, city buses, subways, and shopping malls with a much greater likelihood of success (Terror threat to restaurants as Al Qaeda calls for attacks on government workers in D.C NY Daily News, October 11, 2010). Since an alert and informed citizenry is our best defense, it may behoove readers to peruse the Terrorist Recognition Handbook provided here. From Chapter 1:
The most difficult and critical component of terrorism education is learning how to recognize and predict an attack. Those responsible for homeland security [YOU] need to be well versed in terrorist attack pre-incident indicators (TAPIs). TAPIs are behaviors; they are actions terrorists must take before they can carry out an attack. (Insert mine)
Friends, keep your eyes and ears open. Report suspicious activity to the authorities. Stay alert. Stay safe. Remember, it can be dangerous out there.
