“24” — With Al Gore

With the retirement of octogenarian slapstick comic Jerry Lewis, the September media marathoning business has taken a huge hit.  Stepping into the breech, however, is sexagenarian straight man Al Gore (Al Gore In 24-Hour Broadcast To Convert Climate Skeptics).  With worldwide temperatures dropping, glaciers enlarging and Arctic ice increasing, all in direct contradiction to Al’s previous dire warmings…uh, warnings (See An Inconvenient Truth), he has revised his persona from global warming alarmist to catastrophic climate changist, a much safer schtick, since it safely encompasses every weather related event on the planet:

“24 Hours of Reality” will broadcast a presentation by Al Gore every hour for 24 hours across 24 different time zones from Wednesday to Thursday, with the aim of convincing climate change deniers and driving action against global warming among households, schools and businesses.

The campaign also asks people to hand over control of their social networking accounts on Facebook and Twitter to it for 24 hours to deliver Gore’s message.

Sequels being what they are and Algore being what he is, insomniacs everywhere should be rejoicing.  But what exactly is Al’s message?  Why, it’s essentially the same tiresome blather that socialists have been trumpeting ever since old Karl Marx first took Red pen to paper—Capitalism Is Bad—and the threat of global warming, i.e. climate change, is merely the latest tool in the box with which they hope to dismantle it.  Paul McGarr, writing in the journal of International Socialism admitted the real inconvenient truth:

“In short, the struggle over climate change raises the question of wresting power and wealth out of the hands of those who have it now.” Capitalism and Climate Change

In short, what ecosocialists like Algore desire is the same thing that regular old socialists like Barack Obama and his former climate czar Carol Browner desire—the global redistribution of wealth from those who have earned it to power-hungry ideologues who have not.  Green really is the new Red.

The Slow, Certain Death of the Global Warming Theory (Warning Signs)

Gore-a-Thon: ’24 Hours of Reality’ (Doug Powers via Michelle Malkin) – “It isn’t often you hear the words “Al Gore” and “reality” in the same sentence in any place that doesn’t have straps on the beds, let alone hear them for 24 straight hours.”

Nobel Prize-Winning Physicist Resigns Over Global Warming(FoxNews):

The official position of the American Physical Society (APS) supports the theory that man’s actions have inexorably led to the warming of the planet, through increased emissions of carbon dioxide.

[Dr. Ivar] Giaever does not agree — and put it bluntly and succinctly in the subject line of his email, reprinted at Climate Depot, a website devoted to debunking the theory of man-made climate change.

“I resign from APS,” Giaever wrote.

Giaever was cooled to the statement on warming theory by a line claiming that “the evidence is incontrovertible.”

…”The claim … is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this ‘warming’ period,” his email message said.

Gore’s Bore-A-Thon (Washington Times): According to Al Gore’s website, “millions” tuned in to watch the 24-hour global warming filibuster that concluded Thursday. Few were moved to anything but laughter.

[…] The reality that they [Americans] do see is their hard-earned dollars being transferred to “green” companies like Solyndra, which only exist to make a buck off of Mr. Gore’s dull, science-fiction tale with federal funds.

    Just tweeted. Thanks Bob.

  2. I have bad news for the climate warm/changers. To put a stop to climate change they need to shut down two nuclear fusion reactors. One is known as the sun and the other is known as the earth’s core. Shutting-down those two reactors would bring about one last and permanent change in our climate.

Alan Caruba had a related post at CNS today, “The Slow, Certain Death of the Global Warming Theory”:

[…] Former Vice President Al Gore, the most public face of “global warming”, has become a public joke. Recall, however, that he received a Nobel Prize and an Oscar in additions to the millions earned from the sale of “carbon credits” to offset “greenhouse gases.” Some exchanges devoted to these credits have closed their doors. The proposed Cap-and-Trade legislation based on them lingers in Congress.

…MIT Professor, Dr. Richard Lindzen, an internationally recognized authority on atmospheric science, said, “Future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century’s developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and, on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age.”

Shall I submit a reference to an old ‘fairy tale’ here.
    The reference pertains to Goldilocks.
One is too cold, one is too hot, one is JUST RIGHT.
Our solar system is static as far as we are concerned, given our lifetimes.
It is dynamic, compared to the history that we can determine from the demise of the dinosaurs and the obvious evidence that the archeologists have confirmed.

The sun controls this solar system. (Along with the milky way constellation).
A chemical reaction existing in the vacuum of space that happens to heat this planet.
The mass (gravity) that retains the planets in an orbit that does not allow the earth to fall out of orbit and get hot or cold and thereby destroy the life that exists on this planet.
    Just an observation.

Captains’ Logs Yield Climate Clues…no, not Captain Kirk’s stardate logs, but those of the British Royal Navy:

The logbooks kept by every naval ship, ranging from Nelson’s Victory and Cook’s Endeavour down to the humblest frigate, are emerging as one of the world’s best sources for long-term weather data.

…A preliminary study of 6,000 logbooks has produced results that raise questions about climate change theories. One paper, published by Dr Dennis Wheeler, a Sunderland University geographer, in the journal The Holocene, details a surge in the frequency of summer storms over Britain in the 1680s and 1690s.

Many scientists believe storms are a consequence of global warming, but these were the coldest decades of the so-called Little Ice Age that hit Europe from about 1600 to 1850.

Wheeler and his colleagues have since won European Union funding to extend this research to 1750. This shows that during the 1730s, Europe underwent a period of rapid warming similar to that recorded recently – and which must have had natural origins.

…The ships’ logs have also shed light on extreme weather events such as hurricanes. It is commonly believed that hurricanes form in the eastern Atlantic and track westwards, so scientists were shocked in 2005 when Hurricane Vince instead moved northeast to hit southern Spain and Portugal.

Many interpreted this as a consequence of climate change; but Wheeler, along with colleagues at the University of Madrid, used old ships’ logs to show that this had also happened in 1842, when a hurricane followed the same trajectory into Andalusia.

…Wheeler makes clear he has no doubts about modern human-induced climate change. He said: “Global warming is a reality, but what our data shows is that climate science is complex and that it is wrong to take particular events and link them to CO2 emissions. These records will give us a much clearer picture of what is really happening.”

That was in 2008. And now? NOAA Confirms Recent Global Temperature Change Is Historically Small & Warming Is Decelerating:

…recent annual temperature changes reported by the NOAA/NCDC dataset are well within normal variability. And as an additional smackdown of the elites’ science of stupidity, levels of CO2 show little, if any, impact on actual global temperature change.

Despite the leftist-liberal war-on-science public relations effort to convince the public that global warming is a modern phenomenon, the globe has been warming for approximately the last 200+ years since the end of the Little Ice Age, prior to large industrial/consumer CO2 emissions. This inconvenient science for the left has been thoroughly researched and documented in the peer-reviewed science journals.

      • AFVET says:

        Nice find Bob.
The climate changes on this planet are indeed complex.
Where I live, there was a glacier estimated to be a mile high.
Of course, the mammoths cannot justify that estimation,….they’re dead.

  5. This ain’t new, but it’s a perennial hit in this house. Seriously, my boys love this cartoon:

  6. Angel says:

can u believe this sham is still going on Bob..good Lord…

  7. Gotta love the clueless wonders on the left. They argue that capitalism causes “imperialist war,” but neglect that (a) Imperial expansion predates modern capitalism (note that Marx’s critique of capitalism is inherently bound up with the rise of industrial “society”) – Akkad, Sumer, e.g. – NO ONE can claim that these empires had private property rights, the main object of contention for socialists everywhere and (b) that post-dating modern capitalism are socialist states (i.e. those with very little or no private property rights) that go on the war path: modern North Korea versus South Korea, North Vietnam versus South Vietnam, and the USSR versus, well, all of Eastern Europe, part of Germany, Central Asia…(I’m too lazy to look up the official names of the commie parties, which are usually long and work in “democratic” somewhere.) In contrast, scientific research shows that (liberal) democracies are far more peaceful than those that are not. Democracies that trade with one another, for various reasons, are least likely of other kinds of states to go to war (as opposed to say, authoritarian states with trade embargoes).

As far as global warming climate change.goes, it is a means for socialists to destroy private property rights. Environment is a proxy for totalitarian control – and it also gives away the game that “socialism” isn’t about “society” anymore than “environmentalism” is about the “environment” – they’re just schticks to sell the soap of government control of every aspect of human life.

  8. Bunkerville says:

To coin a phrase “Al Gore is so yesterday”! :))

  9. Bob Mack says:

Unfortunately for the world, he refuses to stay there…

  10. Cheryl says:

The sorry thing is the “Sustainability” crap based on “Global Warming” / “Climate Change” has already been infused into every nook and cranny of our lives at this point. From the Chamber of Commerce to the Green Building Council to the indoctrination of every public school child, we are so covered up with this toxic rash of insanity that no amount of rational logic will cure those sick with the contagion. It’s such a clever device, using the environment to turn everyone into a Marxist. Seems to have worked on two groups of people; those who are too dumb to realize what it is, and those who know better but see the real green of dollar signs and are capitalizing on the Marxism. Now there is an oxymoron for you. Morons and oxymorons, together forever, clasping hands and singing to the trees. I think I’ll just go now before this comment gets worse….

    Great post, Bob!

    • Bob Mack says:

It’s one of their most effective tactics, the old “When did you stop beating your wife?” routine. Abetted by the media, they use it with impunity to demonize everybody to the right of Karl Marx.
