Greening The Military

“The budget should be balanced. Public debt should be reduced. The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered, and assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt.” —Marcus Tullius Cicero (106BC-43BC)

Barack Obama will drag this year’s noxious edition of payola, profligacy, and larcenous intent—laughingly misnamed ‘the federal budget‘—over to Congress on Monday, a week past the deadline mandated by the U.S. Constitution; late, however, is never better than never when it comes to the squandering of tax dollars in which Obama and his comrades specialize. At any event, Barry’s modest negligence won’t for one second faze those dissipated Jackasses in the Senate, who have steadfastly refused for the last 36 months to provide their own spending plan (as required by law). And, like everything else in this murkiest of mis-administrations, Obama’s latest blueprint for bankruptcy is not quite on the up-and-up:

The White House believes it’s figured out how to get more money for clean energy programs touted by President Obama without having it become political road kill in the wake of the Solyndra controversy: Put it in the Pentagon.

While details are thin on the ground, lawmakers who work on both energy and defense spending policy believe the 2013 budget request to be delivered to Congress on Monday probably won’t include big increases for wind and solar power through the Energy Department, a major target for Republicans since solar-panel maker Solyndra defaulted last year on a $535 million loan guarantee from the DOE.

But they do expect to see increases in spending on alternative energy in the Defense Department, such as programs to replace traditional jet fuel with biofuels, supply troops on the front lines with solar-powered electronic equipment, build hybrid engine tanks and aircraft carriers, and increase renewable energy use on military bases. (White House budget to expand clean energy programs through Pentagon – Defense/GovExec.com)

It’s uncertain whether this is a scheme to amplify kickbacks to Obama campaign donors that peddle alternative energy or to further decrease the war-fighting effectiveness of our Politically Corrected and increasingly indigent armed forces.  Given this president’s history, it’s probably both.  The man never misses a chance to kill two birds with one stone, as long as both birds are American eagles.

  1. I hope that the Republicans are keeping an accurate list of all the crap they have to undo if they ever get the chance.

Obama to unveil budget with higher taxes, more deficits

President Obama’s budget request to Congress on Monday will forecast a deficit of $1.33 trillion in the current fiscal year and calls for $1.5 trillion in tax increases over the next decade, senior administration officials said Friday night…

…The projected deficit in the current fiscal year is higher than the $1.29 trillion deficit in 2011…Tax increases will feature prominently in the new budget…

…Fiscal 2013 begins on Oct. 1, 2012, although Senate Democrats have been unable to approve a federal budget in more than 1,000 days…

…The national debt, which stood at $10.6 trillion when Mr. Obama took office, has risen to more than $15.3 trillion.

  4. As long as the world has no other save haven to go to and as long as the are willing to accept a negative interest rate (this can’t last much longer) then we can foolishly rollover our debt and borrow more esentially for free. But the day that our bond demand higher interest if they are going to accept a rollover or buy more bonds, the party is over. We will go down with a bang and not with a whimper.

    Wha…? Plug-in aircraft is innovative!~

You say “indigent” armed forces, but I’d call it impotent and emasculated…we will replace the “endangered bald eagle” with the prolific parakeet as soon as Obama is re-elected. Its much greener…the bird, that is.

One has to give his regime credit for creativity. If the GOP could be just half as…. we might get somewhere. They must lay awake nights dreaming how to finish off our Country.

“…the last time the (Democrat-majority) Senate passed a budget, no one outside of Apple had ever heard of an iPad. There are precocious children in pre-school who have never lived in an America in which the Senate has passed a budget.” —Rand Simberg, PJ Media, (Our Benevolent Marxist Masters)

So he doles out tax dollars to the Muslim Brotherhood while stiffing G.I.s out of their combat pay (Obama: Soldiers in Afghanistan Must Be Fired Upon to Receive Combat Pay):

President Obama, however, was apparently never burdened with that urgent call to serve others or his country selflessly. And because the only thing he ever answered to was a call to “self-empowerment” and self-ingratiation, he has been a brutal failure as a moral leader and Commander in Chief. In addition, his unquenchable desire to “win over” that portion of the world population to whom he has sold his soul has led him to a new round of actions that should anger every red blooded American and will disgust every American who has ever donned the uniform of a United States Marine!

…As of February 1st 2012, President Obama has determined that Combat Pay for US forces will be determined by a new criteria. In general, Afghanistan has been deemed a combat zone and all US forces deployed in that region have been eligible for combat pay due to the certainty of encountering dirt-bags in firefights, ambushes, IED’s or suicide bombings. This new policy now requires having been shot at first. For those not understanding the problem with this, it now says that the US Government has effectively declared Afghanistan a “safe zone”! And this in spite of the nearly daily reports of Americans being either wounded or killed!

This newest insult is certainly an effort to bolster what will be his campaign claim to have “pacified” Afghanistan during his tenure and having kept one of his last campaign promises to bring all troops home by the end of his first term. But here again is where perception, does not align with reality. In a land where the Taliban are given new control over the country by our unwillingness to hold them accountable in combat and where discussions of “peace talks” include promises to release known murderous thugs back onto the battlefield where our troops still operate, the Taliban have made it clear they are not only not in talks but that they are not interested.

If you are stationed in a combat zone, you are at risk. Cheating the troops of their hazardous duty pay is just what I expect from Obama & the Democrats.

  10. Sesky says:

Bit of a nitpick, but the quote you attributed to Cicero at the beginning was not at all made by him. Common misconception though.

    • Bob Mack says:

Gracias, SESKY. If I could remember from where I pulled it, I’d complain. The actual Cicero quote is apparently, “The arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign hands should be curtailed, lest Rome fall.” The quote attributed to the old Roman seems to have come from A Pillar Of Iron by Taylor Caldwell.
