Party Of The 1st Part, Do You Take This Person…

In Jolly Auld England, things are about to get jollier…or, at least, gayer. The Mail Online reports:

Reforms to allow same-sex marriage will see the words husband and wife removed from official forms, it was revealed last night. Tax and benefits guidance and immigration documents must be rewritten so they no longer assume a married couple is a man and a woman. And private companies will be told to overhaul paperwork and computer databases containing the words.

The proposals have triggered a furious row, with the Church of England accusing the Coalition of misunderstanding the law of marriage. But Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone warned religious leaders not to ‘fan the flames of homophobia’ with ‘inflammatory’ language.

What, perchance, are the official duties of a government “Equalities Minister”—other than blathering colorfully about the “flames of homophobia” and ensuring that “husbands” and “wives” (“inflammatory” words that have no place in the modern socialist lexicon)  become as extinct as the dodo bird, the only living examples of which are currently to be found inhabiting the offices of the “Equality Ministry” and other bureaucratic aviaries?

The millionaire Dodo Featherstone, like so many of our stateside liberals, is fond of preserving her own fodder while gleefully disbursing everyone else’s. She is the British verison of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, chairperson of America’s Democratic National Committee, and has been  described similarly as a “dizzy airhead.”

[Featherstone] introduced a move that would allow positive discrimination which is primarily aimed at addressing female under-representation in the workforce…a manager will be able lawfully to hire a black man over a white man, a homosexual man over a heterosexual man, if they have the same skill set. Featherstone, denied the plans were about “political correctness, or red tape, or quotas” and would help make the workplace fairer. In September 2011 Featherstone caused controversy by claiming men make “terrible decisions” when they are in charge. Speaking at the Liberal Democrat conference Featherstone blamed men for the mess the world was in…

An unbiased observer might conclude that most of the mess has in fact resulted from the proliferation of inane policies promulgated by “dizzy” progressives like Minister Featherstone and her equally barmy American cousins, all of who promote unfairness as the only reasonable antidote to unfairness.

Here in the former colonies, we haven’t gone quite as far off the deep end as no-longer-Great Britain, although we’re close, thanks to an unchecked, 80-year infestation of radicals within the government, a blight that, left untreated, is likely to end with the country certified by normal folk as “unfit for human habitation.”

  1. Positive discrimination! How long before hear those words from Eric Holder?

  2. anatheimp says:

Ah, Bob, all I can say is that there is something rotten in the state of Denmark! It’s as well to remember that this fatuous and ignorant politician is a member of a coalition that includes Conservative politicians, though she herself is a Liberal Democrat. That particular party, long a complete irrelevance in British politics, is the last refuge for every fashionable notion of political correctness. Sometimes these creatures, and the causes they embrace, make me angry, but mostly they make me laugh. http://www.broowaha.com/articles/13028/we-are-all-mad-here

    • Bob Mack says:

Better to laugh than cry, I guess. From your post linked above:

When one thinks things can’t get any crazier, well, they do! A minicab firm in Southampton in southern England was described as ‘racist’ because some of their drivers had signs on their vehicles announcing – wait for it –‘English spoken here.’

…You think that’s’ bad? Well, you ain’t heard nothing yet. The United Kingdom Job Centre no longer accepts adverts for ‘reliable workers.’ Why? Because it discriminates against ‘unreliable workers.’

Yes, that’s true. It follows from a help wanted ad by a Mrs Nicole Mamo, who runs Devonwood Recruitment, supplying cleaners, caterers and porters to hospitals across the country. When she attempted to place the ad in the job centre at Thetford in Norfolk she was told that the wording was ‘unacceptable’ for the reason given. She also had to battle to retain ‘must speak English’ because that was also considered to be ‘discriminatory.’ In the end she had to write “Must speak English due to health and safety reasons.”

Honestly, it would be impossible to make this stuff up; it’s simply too fanciful even for the imagination of Lewis Carroll. “Contrariwise, if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn’t, it ain’t. That’s logic.” Yes, that’s logic alright. “But I don’t want to go among mad people,” said Alice. “Oh, you can’t help that,” said the cat. “We’re all mad here.” We must be to put up with this rubbish. Who is it, I want to know, who dreams up this kind of stuff and how much are they paid? It’s like some bizarre, some surreal comedy.

  3. “a blight that, left untreated, is likely to end with the country certified by normal folk as “unfit for human habitation.””

    Define ‘normal’.

And letting gay people get married makes it unfit for your habitation? Really? Overreacting much?

    • Bob Mack says:

      1. Application of the Bell Curve to any set of data will readily allow the observation of statistical normality.
      2. The tongue-in-cheek statement was obviously referring to ‘progressives’ in government and their long record of policy failures. Misrepresentation of context is a common tactic. I hope in your case it was unintentional. However…
      3. Marriage is a social and legal framework designed for the propagation of the species and the protection and nurturing of the young. Insofar as homosexual liasons are barren, the purpose of marriage is consequently negated and should not be legally sanctioned. Overreaction is confined to the vacant brainpans of liberals who use phrases like “fanning the flames of homophobia.”

  4. Bob Mack says:

    Speaking of overreactions, how’s this:

“You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Morris Township, N.J.

Biden: Bin Laden killing most ‘audacious’ plan in 500 years

No, not the Normandy Invasion, nor the Inchon assault, nor the lunar landing, nor the American Revolution. It’s Obama, only Obama. Biden’s an idiot.
