“I can just see you in Berlin in 1939 goose-stepping past me: ‘C’mon Jerry, go along, go along…'” — Jerry to George, in “The Outing”
“The alternative media, Jerry. That’s where you hear the truth.” — Kramer, in “The Old Man”
COMEDIAN: What is it you do for a living?
HECKLER: I mind my own business.
COMEDIAN: Self-employed, eh?
“You need to be able to take a leak in your yard without someone saying, ‘Hey what’s he doing?'” — Phil Robertson
There’s nothing funny about communism. A Marxist’s idea of stand-up is marching a bald headed capitalist or two in front of a firing squad before breakfast. The gulags in every “People’s” Republic are filled with funny men who made the mistake of ridiculing the wrong Red. America’s “progressives” haven’t gotten us to that point quite yet, though they’re growing closer every day. Totalitarians just can’t take a joke. As they used to say on the train to Siberia, if good luck is living under under socialism, then bad luck is in having such good luck.
The latest target of America’s diversity bullies is Jerry Seinfeld, whose 1990’s “show about nothing” is still considered to be the greatest TV comedy ever:
Jerry Seinfeld forged a stand-up career by avoiding R-rated routines, preferring observational gags to F-bombs and sexual puns. He didn’t push anyone’s buttons. He just made people laugh. Yet the Seinfeld star said something so politically incorrect Monday that it could have reverberations across the comedy landscape. He answered charges that both his signature sitcom and his new online series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, don’t feature enough comics of color. (Jerry Seinfeld Slams ‘PC Nonsense,’ Says Diversity Demands Kill Comedy)
What Seinfeld has found himself ensnared in is this left-wing idea that outcomes, rather than opportunities, must be equal. They believe that an outcome which favors one demographic or another must be the result of some sort of bias, be it conscious or unconscious, and thus criticized and undone by some sort of affirmative action policy. The gender pay gap can’t just be about the choices men and women make in their careers. It has to be about some patriarchal conspiracy to keep women down. Black achievement gaps aren’t about social issues within the black community itself. It’s racism, and anyone questioning that is racist too. (Jerry Seinfeld Attacked For Not Caring About Race)
In Barack Obama’s America, everybody’s business is the business of the State. And there’s nothing funny about that.
