“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” — J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Jerry Seinfeld: Hold it, Newman, you wouldn’t eat broccoli if it was deep fried in chocolate sauce.
Newman: I love broccoli. Its good for you.
Jerry Seinfeld: Really? Then maybe you’d like to have a piece?
Newman: Gladly. [Newman spits it out] Vile weed!
Ah, t’were it but the noon repasts of juveniles that the Marxists in Washington desired to control. But, no. They want to control all that enters the minds of the young as well as what goes down their gullets:
That’s not the worst of it. While the distaff Obama works to replace student burgers with federal broccoli, her husband seeks, under the guise of “protecting” the environment, to control the very air, water, and soil in which the “vile weed” flourishes.
This is communism, folks. And, given the industrial smog choking Red China as well as the grimy history of the former Iron Curtain countries, socialist commissars and liberal Democrats are not the kind of stewards any sane person would want tending their former privately owned yards.
Or tending anything else, for that matter.
Each day, the federal anaconda squeezes more of the life from us, while the serpent insists that he crushes us for our own good. The average Mafia don is less dangerous than the ideologues and opportunists we’ve elected to represent us. Democrats are the primary culprits, of course, but the embrace of the snakes is a bipartisan effort. It was, after all, Tricky Dick Nixon who saddled us with the E.P.A. And guys like Bawlin’ John Boehner are carrying his execrable tradition forward.
The GOP has been hijacked. That’s right, hijacked. Over the past 100 years, an elite progressive minority has taken the Republican Party far afield from its conservative platform and the interests and values of its grassroots conservative base … We are angry at the disrespect shown to limited-government constitutional conservatives who were delegates to the 2012 Republican National Convention. We are angrier still when members of Congress, whom we elected, and who want to use the democratic process to push policies based on conservative principles, are told to “get their ass in line” by Speaker of the House John Boehner, and to go along with the Republican Party leadership’s betrayal of conservative principles—or else. (We’re Coming for You, John Boehner)
Elections are not the answer to what ails us. Vote the current crop of bums out and they’ll just be replaced by fresh bums. The evidence of history is that pigs will pen poems before a government voluntarily shrinks itself. The nostrum that’s needed is one we already have: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. (10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution)
