What’s the matter with kids today? Maybe it’s the ‘public servants’ that teach them:
NYC School System & Greta Hawkins Supports Un-Americanism
Greta Hawkins is principal of PS 90, the Edna Cohen School, in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Ms. Hawkins either hates America, is embarrassed to be an American, or just plain stupid.
Ms. Hawkins nixed a plan for children singing “Proud to be an American” at a kindergarten graduation ceremony, including the children waving American flags while singing the song. The reason for her decision is ridiculous. She did not want to offend the tender sensitivities of other cultures, the parents and families attending the ceremony.
Ms. Hawkins previously tried ending the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of America the Beautiful. She has a record of being unpatriotic and un-American in the name of age appropriateness and cultural sensitivity.
It seems Ms. Hawkins, like the majority of the education cartel, has a problem with anything American or patriotic, including the American flag…
Perhaps some kind soul would remind La Gret and her superiors, as they put the kibosh on America and her children, that New York is still one of the 57 supposedly united states. Not that they’d much care.
It Sucks to Be Greta Hawkins Today
Prior to September 2009, PS90 Edna Cohen School in Brooklyn was highly rated by the state. According to parents it was a good place to send your children, as it had an efficient principal, a caring staff, a good library, a state-of-the-art computer lab, and the opportunity for instruction in instrumental music as it was designated a “performing arts” school; and, according to the teachers, it was a great place to work, a place where the students were put first and they felt they were both supported and nurtured by the administration in their efforts to give the children a first-class education. That was then, this is now, and nothing is the same — the school is on the edge of failure by state standards, the library is closed (the books sold off at 25-cents each), the computer lab is closed, thousands of dollars in grant funds are unaccounted for, the music program is ended, the teachers claim the work environment is toxic, and there is the constant threat of racism and repression in the air. The difference, parents and teachers claim, is the appointment of Greta Hawkins as principal.
From the beginning, it has been a rough ride, and at a staff meeting shortly after she took the helm, Hawkins announced that things were going to change around the school, whether they liked it or not, because she was “a black Jehovah’s Witness, not a white Jew,” like her predecessor. That racist comment earned her a warning from the school district and mandatory sensitivity training, which, as one teacher wrote, “does not seem to have done her any good.” (via America Conservative 2 Conservative)
Anyone care to venture a guess as to which presidential hopeful Ms. Hawkins cast her vote in 2008?

They should have kicked her butt out of that school the minute she made that comment. It sums up her entire mentality, and they should have known she’d be nothing but trouble. What a disservice to our children. That just infuriates me! I’m so happy to be living in a Republican county, where the schools are patriotic, and the principals challenge the kids and promote a real work ethic and American exceptionalism.
RH, I’m glad to hear that there are still public schools that remain uninfected by progressive rot. If Obama cons his way into another 4 years, we’ll probably see Greta Hawkins awarded the Presidential Freedom Medal next year.
No doubt. Sad state of affairs… It’s kind of funny….the last city I lived in was more Democrat, although not heavily liberal. Most of the teachers talked about Obama in a very positive way, as did many of the kids. Now, my son tells me the kids in his new school can’t stand Obama, but he never hears the teachers talk about him one way or the other. So the liberal schools are indoctrinating the kids, while the conservative schools stay away from it and actually teach them to think for themselves. Go figure…
This women is clearly a racist. Also, she has no patriotism. We must ask the question is she even an american citizen. Her religious convections are interfering with her position of being a principal. The parents and citizens should demand her termination immediately. Finally, if they get a NO from the administration they need to protest and picket, and then go to the governor. They are the taxpayers paying her salary and they have the right to choose their principal.

We need to change the rules.
Many parents are either homeschooling their children or sending them to private schools, because of the low performance of the public school system.
The local school that I have to pay into has the lowest rating in the county.
Yet, they are building a brand new school.
The current one is 50 years old, and has no air conditioning. OMG !!!!
Keep in mind that the teachers here in Ohio get the summer off, with full pay, and they don’t have to experience the horrendous heat and the ordeal that the school with no air conditioning would impose on them.
I live next door to a teacher that needs air conditioning to teach, her words.
They still have to pay their property taxes which in my state, Ohio, the majority goes right to the schools, that fund the teachers unions and pensions that contribute money to the liberals.
That is socialism, money laundering, whatever you want to call it.
If you don’t pay your property tax, the county will take your house, whether you disagree with where your money is going or not.

Didn’t realize she had such a history of racism and incompetence. I would think there’s enough ammo to finally fire her…but then it IS NY where the unions are still all-powerful.
It’s ridiculous, FREE. I knew a guy who was fired from his state job for extreme incompetence THREE times. They re-instated him all three. My experience is that the 80-20 rule is ironclad within government — 20% of the workforce does 80% of the work.
I’ll vouch for that! My employer is a private company, but a majority of our employees came from a state agency. They are the worst workers in the lot (not all, but the majority). The ones hired from the private sector, like me, do 3x the work of the others, and the incompetent ones get a pass. The work ethic, or lack thereof, astounds me.

A public school education ain’t what it used to be, AOW. In fact, in a lot of places these days, it seems to be worse than no education at all. But then again, that’s only the observation of this curmudgeonly autodidact …

That’s what I thought too. White people are always being told they are racist and getting arrested for it (especially as a HATE crime, all crimes are done in some form of hatred). It amazes me how many people of different races or colors or whatever they want to identify themselves by as being “different” from white people actually get away with being racist, but because they aren’t white it is ok.
