Obama Praises Ahmed Mohamed for ‘Cool Clock,’ Invites Him to White House

“Ahmed, who was new to the school and had an affinity for gadgets, told reporters he wanted to impress his new teachers with his abilities. So he cobbled together the clock — a power source, circuit board and digital display — in 20 minutes on Sunday night, then took it to school Monday. Ahmed’s engineering teacher complimented him while advising him not to show it to others.” (A clock, an imaginary bomb and a question of prejudice)

America’s ever-predictable Left has seized on the incident of Ahmed’s clock as illustrative of the nation’s intractable bigotry, racism, xenophobia, and tendency to fart in church, as if a metal case containing a wired device connected to a timer and carried into a school by a kid named Mohamed was nothing over which to exercise caution.  History and common sense would indicate otherwise:

You might not know it from the grand pity party that vocal Muslims seem to have thrown for themselves in the years since 9/11, but only one Muslim in America was killed in a vigilante “revenge” attack following the horrific slaughter of thousands in the name of Allah.  That would be Waqar Hasan, a Muslim convenience storeowner who was gunned down by Mark Anthony Stroman in Texas.  Hardly an average American, Stroman was a white supremacist with a felony criminal record who went on to shoot two more people in the following weeks.  However, he did claim to be motivated by anger after having watched the twin towers fall.

Thankfully, an American jury sentenced Mark Stroman to death.  The same cannot be said of many Muslim terrorists such as Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Al Megrahi, who not only have sanctuary in Muslim countries, but are often treated as heroes by devout followers of Muhammad.

Of course, 9/11 was neither the first nor the last time that Muslims have killed Americans on U.S. soil in terror attacks. In fact, since that day, Muslims have killed at least 66 people in 41 separate acts of terrorism in the United States (by the standards that Muslim-American groups set for hate crimes). Perhaps more importantly, there have been plenty of mass murder plots against Americans by Islamic terrorists that were thwarted by the FBI, law enforcement and overseas intelligence operations both before and after 9/11, as well as several that were simply botched, such as the attempt to blow up Times Square. It seems Ahmed Mohamed was an innocent kid.  So what? Irving police chief Larry Boyd pointed out the obvious:

“We live in an age where you can’t take things like that to school.”

But apparently you can carry them into the White House.

The more we learn about the facts surrounding the events in Irving, Texas this week, the more it seems we’ve been bamboozled … It appears, the “clock” Mohamed brought to school this week was not the first of his circuit boards to look ominously like an improvised explosive device trigger. In fact, a photograph of one circulated by the Dallas Morning News was virtually indistinguishable from a circuit board used in a commercially available device used to train law enforcement and military personnel regarding how to identify IEDs … When Ahmed’s miniature briefcase “clock” did precipitate such concerns, he refused to answer questions from school personnel and police about “his intentions and why he had brought the device to school.” Presumably, they were particularly interested in knowing whether he had brought anything else to school – perhaps to include the other part of such a bomb: the explosive component. Under the circumstances and in accordance with protocols adopted in Irving – and in school districts across America to protect students and faculty from the sorts of attacks that have resulted in mass murders in several instances, Ahmed was taken into custody. The photograph of him in handcuffs that has gone viral, however, was not taken as he was escorted from the high school. Rather, it was staged after his father insisted at the police station that the cuffs remain on so his sister could take the picture. In very short order, the family was under management by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization established – ironically, in a federal prosecution conducted in nearby Richardson, Texas – to be a Muslim Brotherhood-associated fundraising and political warfare arm for the designated terrorist group, Hamas. Ahmed lawyered up and he and his family were no-shows for scheduled meetings with school officials and with the police chief and Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne.  (Read more here)
