Like a reformed sinner from the back hills who can’t resist the siren call of that sweet old ‘shine, conservative talk show host Michael Medved is backsliding. In a February 14th op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Medved, a rehabilitated liberal and one-time aide to Left Coast socialist Ron Dellums, has sent Barack Obama what amounts to a happy Hallmark greeting for Valentine’s Day. In his piece (Obama Isn’t Trying To Harm America), Medved opines,
Republicans already face a formidable challenge in convincing a closely divided electorate that the president pursues wrong-headed policies. They will never succeed in arguing that those initiatives have been cunningly and purposefully designed to wound the republic. In Mr. Obama’s case, it’s particularly unhelpful to focus on alleged bad intentions and rotten character when every survey shows more favorable views of his personality than his policies.
Moreover, the current insistence in seeing every misstep or setback by the Obama administration as part of a diabolical master plan for national destruction disregards the powerful reverence for the White House that’s been part of our national character for two centuries.
Oh? It didn’t take a diabolic master plan to wound the Republic, Mr. Medved. All it took was a Congress filled to overflowing with socialists and their fellow travelers, a fanatical willingness to ignore the expressed will of the American people, and a liberal mass media more than willing to propagandize and prevaricate on behalf of their favorite son. But the rub is this: it matters little if Obama is weakening the nation by malevolent intent, by sheer incompetence, or by both. What matters is that he is doing it.
Be Sure You’re Right, Then Go Ahead 
A nice smile? Not in my opinion. I just despise that grin-flashing that he does.
But Medved seems to think so. Who cares if Obama’s teeth are pearly white when his policies are bright pink?
Medved: another name to file away in the “I thought he had more sense than this” cabinet.

I’d originally intended to respond to your commenter, whose statistics on firearms fatalities are generally incorrect (thread is here), but I realized that argument was futile, so I took my own advice. After all, the same people who think Obamacare is Constitutional are usually the same ones who can blithely ignore sub-freezing temperatures, recurring ice ages, millions of years of history, and scientific opinion to the contrary, and blame the worldwide chill on warm weather. They’re as adverse to facts as skunks are to soap.

If Issa is effective in exposing just a portion of Obamas past, it may be the start of Barrys downfall.
One chink in Obamas armor could be his waterloo.

I agree Maggie. Have talked to a lot of people here in Brooklyn, many of whom voted for the first time in their lives in 2008. They are totally up in arms and extremely disappointed in their messiah.
Received two emails today from two women who are unemployed and on the government dole. They are apopleptic over Obama’s budget cuts which will hit them hard. They are at the point that they can’t stand to see the man’s face or hear his voice.
Many of the people who voted for Obama in 2008, now claim that they were just “cutting a brother a break.” I can tell you that many of them will not be coming out to vote for Obama in 2012.
bedesign001, that is very encouraging to me. I’m out here in the very red Oklahoma, and know no one who voted for Obama or ever would – but obviously most did. So when I hear this coming out of Brooklyn, it is heartening. Thanks for passing that on.

It bothers me as well that those who are turning against Obama are turning against him because they feel that Obama is denying them “their due.” In the meantime, it has never occurred to any of them that dependency on food stamps, welfare, etc. means sacrificing one’s liberty (“what fools these mortals be”).
I too pray that Obama is a one-term president.

I want to say another thing today that you guys must weigh carefully and ponder well before you judge me.
