1. Amanda Clayton, Lottery Winner & Food Stamp Recipient

Amanda Clayton … won $1 million in the Michigan State Lottery but is still collecting food stamps. Clayton, who says she owns two homes and a new car, receives $200 a month in food assistance from the state-issued Michigan Bridge Card, which is meant to benefit lower-income residents in the nation’s eighth most economically depressed state.

Clayton isn’t embarrassed about living off the state even though she now finds herself in the nation’s top tax bracket. “I mean I kinda do,” Clayton told Local 4 when asked if she had a “right” to the government welfare.

“I feel that it’s OK because I mean, I have no income and I have bills to pay,” she said. “I have two houses.”  (Lottery winner on food stamps even after $1 million jackpot)

Note: Michigan DHS reports they have removed Ms. Clayton from the dole as of March 8th, 2012.  She collected her windfall profits in September, 2011.

2. Unidentified Seattle Woman Living In Million-Dollar Home, Receiving Public Housing Vouchers

A Seattle woman who is receiving welfare assistance from Washington state also happens to live in a waterfront house on Lake Washington worth more than a million dollars.

Federal agents raided the home this weekend but have not released the woman or her husband’s name because they have not officially been charged with a crime.

However, federal documents obtained by KING 5 News show the couple currently receives more than $1,200 a month in public housing vouchers, plus state and government disability checks and food stamps. They have been receiving the benefits since 2003.

The 2,500 square-foot home, which includes gardens and a boat dock, is valued at $1.2 million. And even though the couple has been receiving the benefits for nearly 10 years, records show that they accurately listed the address of their current home when applying for the state and federal benefits.  (Seattle welfare recipient lives in million-dollar home)

With no authorization from Congress, President Barack Obama has announced that his administration–through the Federal Housing Administration–will insure refinanced mortgages for 2 to 3 million borrowers without verifying their income or even if they hold a job…
